Using Microsoft Azure IoT and Serverless technologies you’ll build fast and scalable cloud solutions as you compete for a share of cash prizes and exposure!

Build an IoT solution to solve a problem that a business or an organization could be facing, or just help to improve your life and of those surrounding you. With that in mind, your solution could go from small pet projects like controlling the smart appliances on your house remotely based on environmental data, or recognizing who rang your doorbell, to big endeavors like analyzing the status of your supply chain or building predictions of stock needs on your humongous warehouse…and anything in between! Just think about a problem you find interesting, and build a solution using Azure.

Eligibility

This hackathon is open to:

  • Individuals (who have reached the age of majority in their jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry)
  • Teams of eligible individuals
  • Organizations

Employees of Microsoft, Devpost, and contractors currently under contract work for Microsoft or Devpost are not eligible.

Requirements

Main Requirement: Build or update functioning software that uses Azure IoT Hub (Basic) and Azure Functions.

Submission Recommendations – Solutions can, but are not required to:

Integrate additional IoT services, serverless services, data services, visualizations, and AI services.

The Azure free account provides you with $200 to spend on any service during the first 30 days, and 12 months of access to 25+ free services, enabling you to envision and implement intuitive tools now with fewer obstacles.

After those first 30 days, and even though most of those services have free tiers and usage at no cost, some of them might incur some expenses. Please refer to Azure Free Account FAQ and Azure Pricing Calculator to learn more about it:

  • IoT services: Azure Location Services
  • Serverless services: Logic Apps or Event Grid
  • Data services: CosmosDB, Azure Storage or SQL database
  • Visualizations: PowerBI, or web apps on App Service
  • AI services: Azure ML Studio, ML Experimentation, or Cognitive Services

How to enter

  1. Register for the hackathon on Devpost.
  2. Learn about the Azure IoT tools on the Resources
  3. Find a teammate (optional) by reaching out to other developers on the Participants tab.
  4. Sign up for an Azure free trial. It’s good for one year!
  5. Shoot your demo video and take screenshots of your functioning app.
  6. Provide a way to access your project for judging and testing, including a link to your repo hosting the application’s code, your exported ARM template (if applicable) and any other deployment files and instructions needed. (The Github or BitBucket code repository may be public or private. If the repository is private, share access with testing@devpost.com).
  7. Submit your application on azurehacks.devpost.com before August 6, 2018 @ 5:00PM EST for consideration in the hackathon!
